Belfast

The Capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast, has had a tumultuous past. The history of Belfast goes back to the Bronze Age but its status as a major urban centre dates to the eighteenth century. Boasting great economical successes as a merchant town and later as the dominant industrial city in the linen, tobacco and ship building trade, Belfast was the largest city in Ireland.
However the city suffered with the Great Depression which affected many cities worldwide and then from the hands of the Germans in air raids which ruined 52% of Belfast’s housing.
Belfast today is a hive of activity set in beautiful surroundings. The city has gone through major redevelopment including Victoria Square, the Titanic Quarter (the doomed Ship Titanic was built in Belfast) and the landmark Waterfront Hall.  With plenty to do and see, Belfast offers more than meets the eye.
