Troperio Brazilian Restaurant - By Rebecca Horne - Chester University
Google Brazil and you’ll be represented with an onslaught of images from football, babes and coastline. One association I had never made until recently is pretty fine cuisine. But at the Manchester’s Tropeiro that is exactly what you get.
The Brazilian restaurant boasts a meaty menu, quite literally, and the presentation is of a theatrical standard guaranteed to generate a great buzz and vibe, a superb place to start any evening.
Instead of ordering your meal in the tradition style, Tropeiro runs a Rodizio service, which basically means you get to sample pretty much everything on the menu and as much as you can handle for a fixed price. Eating prior to visiting this remarkable retreat is not advised!
You can feast on 13 different types of slowly roasted meat delivered promptly to your table by energetic gaucho fashioned waiters. Eating here is not just dining out but a complete food experience.
Corderio, slow roasted leg of lamb marinated in garlic and rosemary with a crunchy coating is definitely top of the menu and surprisingly even the sausages ‘lingucia’ are extremely tasty. All food is cooked with expert simplicity only adding to the attraction.
Obviously the meat is cooked in the Brazilian traditional way so some dishes are more on the rare side than others but beautifully cooked. Apart from this the only criticism is that, as seems typical of Brazil’s food, one or two of the dishes prove very salty. It is highly recommended to order water alongside your feast and avoid fizzy drinks - it would be huge a shame to fill yourself up on liquids when such seriously fine grub is on offer.
Although the restaurant has a salad and side bar offering quirky little dishes this not the place for a vegetarian, although Tropeiro is worthy of a visit just for pure atmosphere alone. And it certainly isn’t somewhere for a formal business lunch unless you intend to throw in a few native cocktails to relax your co-workers.
Sitting downstairs is a plus, this way you get to see all the meat as it's prepared titillating your taste buds and senses further, and the atmosphere is much more on the intimate side than upstairs. The toilets are also located below which does mean a bit of chair shuffling every now and again.
For meat lovers this restaurant could not be better, the evening Rodizio is a bit on the steep side but you really do get your monies worth. In all, a top night out in Manchester's vibrant city centre where you can bathe in Brazilian tradition, cuisine and culture.
