Heard the name? Perhaps you've heard the music? Well not to worry, you will have soon enough. Playing gigs at the O2 Wireless Festival and appearing on Later... With Jools Holland, 18 year old Laura is proving herself as a skilled and endearing performer. The brit-folk/pop singer-songwriter is nostalgic and introspective beyond her years and her delivery gently bulldozes the listener to stunned silence. Her inventive lyrics and soft voice create an intimate and lulling atmosphere on which the audience can float away. With gorgeous songs like "My Manic and I" and "New Romantic" she already has a growing fan base in America. Likened to Brit talent Kate Nash and Adele, but with more of a folk resonance, Laura Marling is an up and coming artist who is certain to keep British music on the up. If you google the term "gold teeth", you'll probably get presented with a screen of dodgy looking mouths filled with tacky gold teeth, aimlessly smirking back at you. Well believe me, there is nothing dodgy about the type of Gold Teeth we want to talk about. Four boys from South London - Joe (vocals), Will (drums), Nick (guitars) and Jonny (keyboards, gadgets) - make up the eclectic band that deals very successfully with about five different genres of music at once. Gold Teeth are currently making headway through the unsigned British music scene and are scheduled to perform on the BBC introducing stage at Radio One's Big Weekend this May. So look out for them. They are armed with a seriously good track which could rival any signed bands festival melody - Everybody. Check it out on their MySpace page. |
Do we really need another beautiful blonde with staggering vocals and sex appeal? Well there's no harm in having too many, but is this all that Pixie Lott is? At 18 years old, she has already been snapped up by Mercury Records and caused a commotion with her track Mama Do and an acoustic cover of Kings of Leon Use Somebody. A comparison gauge would be Christina Aguilera/Rachel Stevens/Duffy - not a bad combination. And although she did audition for Britannia High she still seems to come with a good helping of credibility and cool as an artist. She's been written about in The Times culture section, and featured on Dermot O'Leary's Radio 2 slot and Nick Grimshaw's Radio 1 Switch show, so this girl is definately impressing the right people. Watch this space for more on Ms Lott or check out her website. |
It seems we just can't get enough of female vocals at the moment. But it has been a while since there has been an ass-kickingly good combination of rock pop plus sassy girl blasting from our radios. We want to put Kids Love Lies on our Up and Coming radar because they break the mould of the moment and bring back the stand out vocals of a female singer with genuine believability and the jumpy - in a good way - hooks and and beats of energetic indie rock pop. There isn't much in the way of coverage for the band at the moment but we're sure all that will change once they've played Radio 1's Big Weekend Introducing stage. Listen to their music once and you'll want to here more. Check out their Myspace page to listen to their great track Count in My Head. |
